Please join us on May 9 as we continue the Track 1.5 dialogue on Open RAN with the Second Quad Open RAN Forum. We will bring together government and industry leaders to discuss progress on Open RAN deployments over the past year and how Open RAN is facilitating innovation in telecoms infrastructure and beyond.

As part of their participation in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, the governments of Australia, India, Japan, and the U.S. (“Quad governments”) have emphasized the importance of secure and trusted infrastructure for 5G and advanced wireless networks, as well as the need for greater vendor diversity across the telecoms ecosystem.

Because Open RAN has a significant role in delivering on these priorities there has been substantial investment by the private sector, as well as government support for the development and adoption of open and interoperable interfaces.

This week, we’ll be tuning in to the Telco AI World Summit and Open RAN World Summit, taking place April 26-28 in Berlin.

At the AI Summit, experts will share insights on telco AI, analytics, automation and customer experience management. On March 7/8, the Open RAN Policy Coalition partnered with Assocham, Keidanren and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to present a Quad Open RAN Showcase. This is the first public event to be hosted under the Track 1.5 dialogue on Open RAN announced at the September 2021 Quad Leaders Summit, where the governments of Australia, India, Japan and the U.S. emphasized the importance of secure and trusted network infrastructure, and the need for greater vendor diversity across the telecoms ecosystem.

As part of the Showcase, we were honored to feature keynote remarks by Mitsuhiro Hishida, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of the Government of Japan, and Stephen Anderson, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Communications and Information Policy at the U.S. Department of State.

It’s great to be back in person at MWC Barcelona 2022. If you missed our previous roundup of Open RAN Policy Coalition member activities and demonstrations; here you go!

Today we’re highlighting a few more of our members’ exciting announcements from this week:

• Cisco and Rakuten Symphony announced in Barcelona that they are combining strengths to help global service providers prepare the Internet for the Future. The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate the delivery for cloud-native, virtualized 4G/5G mobile networks based on Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) technology.

• Fujitsu announced that it has successfully developed new software virtualized radio access network (vRAN) technology. The newly developed vRAN technology addresses one of the key challenges of conventional vRANs, delivering high-performance with low-energy consumption. Fujitsu estimates that this approach offers the potential to reduce overall system CO2 emissions

The Open RAN Policy Coalition is excited to participate in this year’s MWC Barcelona, being held February 28 – March 3. Executive Director Diane Rinaldo will be on-site to participate in a Trans-Regional Roundtable at the Barcelona Bar Association and a panel discussion at the Security Summit: 5G Network Diversification and Supply Chain Security on March 1 at 11:30 CET.

In addition to conference events and taking the opportunity to connect in person with our membership, the coalition plans to meet with policymakers from around the world to discuss strategies for advancing policies that will help create a more diverse, competitive and secure ecosystem based on open interfaces for 5G and beyond.
