The Open RAN Policy Coalition is thrilled to be back at MWC Barcelona 2025 this week, engaging with industry leaders, policymakers, and our esteemed members. This year’s event has been a hub of innovation, with groundbreaking announcements and demonstrations from participants. Here are some of the highlights:
- Airspan Networks announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Jabil’s Open RAN radio portfolio and associated Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). This strategic acquisition expands Airspan’s capability in high power macro radio development. The acquisition brings a range of single, dual, and triple band macro radios, designed to support global operators across multiple spectrum bands. This portfolio contributes to Airspan’s long-term product evolution and innovation in a rapidly growing market.
- Analog Devices invites visitors to learn more about their unique approach to addressing challenges and seizing opportunities within various markets. With the largest portfolio of innovative wireless technology, ADI works closely with customers and partners to improve security, overall performance, and energy efficiency for the intelligent edge, connectivity, and 5G. The latest demos will include Private 5G for Industrial Applications, Improving Manufacturing with Data Analytics and High Capacity, Long-Range mmW FWA Radio Unit.
- Auden Techno Corp. will showcase industry-first technologies designed to reshape satellite and terrestrial communication including groundbreaking 6G NTN and O-RAN solutions, enhancing satellite-terrestrial integration, spectrum agility, and energy efficiency. Attendees can experience these innovations at Hall 5, 5L31MR (Meeting Room) and 5A61 (Taiwan Pavilion).
- Chunghwa Telecom Co. hosted an international strategic partners’ meeting March 3, where participating entities included U.S. satellite and Internet Protocol television provider Digital Sky Highway, Germany’s Deutsche Telekom, Spain’s Telefónica and Japan mobile phone operator NTT Docomo.
- DeepSig demonstrated its latest advancements in AI-driven radio access networks (RAN). The over-the-air demonstration showcased how an AI-native air interface design, powered by the NVIDIA AI Aerial platform, enhances spectral efficiency, expands network capacity, and delivers real-time adaptation alongside a site-specific RAN digital twin—key pillars of AI-native 6G wireless systems.
- Fujitsu showcased its latest advancements under the theme “Boundless Potential,” offering visitors interactive demonstrations of AI-enhanced network infrastructure, including solutions for optimizing 5G and optical networks, showcasing improved resource allocation and reduced latency. Attendees will see innovative AI applications in action, such as AI agents improving efficiency in manufacturing and IT operations and an ocean digital twin utilizing AI and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for environmental monitoring and predictive maintenance of marine infrastructure.
- Intel is showcasing its innovations enabling peak performance and efficiency across network infrastructure, including the latest Intel® Xeon® 6 processor family. Learn about breakthroughs in hardware and software with no-compromise AI inference performance, developments in vRAN, and private 5G technologies through live demonstrations.
- Nokia unveiled significant developments in its core telecom business, particularly in Open RAN technologies. Balancing these advancements, Nokia announced a 5G.MIL collaboration with Lockheed Martin and Verizon, reflecting its efforts to explore strategic opportunities beyond traditional telecom sectors.
- NTT invites visitors to their booth to explore the new possibilities enabled by hyperconnected intelligent networks, and use cases created by combining advanced networking, private 5G, IoT and OT with edge computing, among other innovations. Don’t miss the chance to experience the world’s first up and running Photonics solution, with Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (iOWN), and Open RAN with OREX-SAI, showing how NTT DATA’s vision and innovation can transform industry for the better.
- Qualcomm Technologies introduced its latest advancements in chipset technology, aiming to enhance the performance and efficiency of Open RAN deployments. On Monday, Qualcomm announced the eighth generation of its 5G modem-RF chip for Android phones, the industry’s first FWA platform for 5G Advanced networks, new modems for industrial IoT applications and big new deployments of 5G Open RAN with leading carriers in Vietnam and Japan.
- Samsung showcased its CognitiV Network Operations Suite (NOS) Copilot on the AWS Cloud at MWC 2025. This integration emphasizes artificial intelligence across Samsung’s product range, including network infrastructure.
- As part of a collaboration with DeepSig and Fujitsu, Qualcomm is contributing its system-on-chip technology to develop AI-enhanced massive MIMO (mMIMO) solutions. This partnership aims to optimize the performance of mMIMO radio units, accelerating the adoption of Open RAN 5G networks and laying the foundation for AI-driven 6G technologies.
- Rakuten Symphony unveiled an “Intelligent Growth” theme for MWC Barcelona 2025; using technology to reduce operational costs of mobile networks and transforming it into an automated, AI-driven platform for new services. In their MWC demonstrations, booth presentations and panel discussions, Rakuten will present the mandate for intelligent growth and the strategies and tools that can make it a reality in your network.
